Presenter Bio

Gakeemah Inglis-Jassiem

Gakeemah Inglis-Jassiem has a special interest in, and clinical expertise in neurological physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Gakeemah completed her BSc Physiotherapy degree (cum laude) at the University of the Western Cape (1996) and her Master’s degree at Stellenbosch University (2006).

She is a qualified Basic Bobath Course Instructor in the assessment and management of adults with lesions of the central nervous system. She was a senior lecturer in Adult Neurology at Stellenbosch University until January 2019 and is currently enrolled as a PhD candidate at the University. Her PhD project focuses on technology to enhance contextually relevant stroke care and support in South Africa. Gakeemah is employed as a part-time researcher in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Stellenbosch University (SU) and is involved in a large international collaborative study investigating universal health care for people with stroke in the country.

She also presents capacity development courses in neurological rehabilitation and provides consultancy and/or mentoring services to therapists and practices in this field.
