Effective musculoskeletal physiotherapy requires more than identifying a diagnosis and selecting an intervention. It requires the ability to interpret clinical findings, generate and test hypotheses, understand the factors contributing to injury and make informed decisions throughout the management process.

The Clinical Reasoning Series provides clinicians with a comprehensive framework for developing more structured and effective clinical reasoning in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Across six courses, the series explores contemporary approaches to MSK injury management, diagnostic thinking, clinical management planning and the principles underpinning effective clinical decision-making. It examines how clinicians can improve diagnostic accuracy, identify the primary drivers of injury, understand the intended effects of different interventions and develop more targeted management strategies.

The series also focuses on applying clinical reasoning to the planning and progression of patient care — from estimating prognosis and pacing recovery, to addressing the causes of overuse injury and ensuring that clinical interventions are directed towards the factors that matter most.

Emphasis is placed on moving beyond protocol-driven care and developing a more structured, individualised approach to clinical decision-making. Clinicians will develop the knowledge and reasoning skills required to better understand the problems they are managing, select interventions with greater purpose and optimise outcomes for their patients.
