Presenter Bio

Brett Phillips

Brett is a physiotherapist specialising in the management of neuromusculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions.

He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town in 2012, graduating top of his class. During his professional training at UCT, Brett was awarded numerous academic awards, including the prestigious South African Society for Physiotherapy Trophy, the Johannes Karl Wilhelm Binnewald Trophy, as well as the Paget Physiotherapy Award.

After his undergraduate studies, he completed his community service year at Northdale District Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, where he worked with in-patients, out-patients and in a rural clinic setting. Upon completion of his community service year, Brett returned to Cape Town and worked in a private practice in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town for a number of years, treating patients with sports and neuromusculoskeletal injuries as well as orthopaedic conditions.

During this time he completed his Master’s degree in Exercise and Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town, once again graduating top of his class with a distinction in the coursework component of the degree. Brett has worked in a professional sporting environment and has a long history of working with professional athletes. He is currently the physiotherapist for Cape Town City Ballet, as well as one of the team physiotherapists for the Cape Cobras Cricket Franchise.

Brett has a passion for research and teaching, and has been a contracted lecturer at the University of Cape Town since 2016, where he lectures on neuromusculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Continuing his involvement with health practitioner education, Brett is also the CEO and founder of EduPro Health, and believes that continually learning as health professionals is of paramount importance for improving the quality of patient care.

He is extremely passionate about maximising patients’ functioning and the potential physiotherapy has to improve quality of life. Away from physiotherapy, Brett is an avid runner, traveller and general sports enthusiast.
